This was held on Friday 7th May, a dry but chilly day. The venue was Brownstown Park which has a running track. After the necessary preparations of marking out the distances on the track for the various races, Sports Day commenced at 10.30am. Rev. Kenny announced the commencement of sports day after an opening prayer. He then called all the races and gave some timely commentary on the events. Nursery, Lower Primary, Upper Primary, Lower and Upper Secondary each had their opportunity to show off their sporting prowess, encouraged by enthusiastic parents, grandparents and other family members.
Points were accumulated for the three house teams, Luther, Calvin and Knox. Although Calvin took the lead by the end of sports day there are still more points to be gained with exam results and other sporting activities, so there is still work to be done by all the teams to win the Sports Shield.
After the prizes were awarded to the first, second and third in each category a further presentation was made. It is customary to present year 12 school leavers with a ‘Daily Light’ Bible Reading book. Nine pupils are taking GCSEs this year and hope to move on to local grammar schools, Further Education colleges and some to Greenmount College.
In the closing prayer Rev Hall commended these young people to the Lord and thanked the Lord for the favourable weather and safe keeping of the pupils throughout Sports Day.
